About the President and Founder

Jason Lamborne began a career in law enforcement as a Peace Officer with the California Highway Patrol in 1996, assigned to working patrol within the metropolitan Los Angeles Area. He joined the Commercial Enforcement Unit in 2000 and expanded the area of enforcement to include all of the Los Angeles County Area. During this time in the Commercial Unit, his duties included conducting roadside commercial vehicle inspections. His in-depth training included enforcement in all things related to commercial enforcement, including, but not limited to, hazardous materials, general bulk package/cargo tank, other bulk packaging, radioactive materials, and motor-coach.

He is a hazardous materials technician specialist with knowledge, training, and experience identifying unknown substances and rendering them neutral for safe mitigation and disposal. He was responsible for oversight on training and the review of hazardous substance spill mitigation reporting for the Los Angeles County Area.

Jason joined NASS (North American Sampling System), a nationwide collision investigation study team from 2002 to 2007. The collision study included all injury collisions of commercial vehicles over 10,000 GVWR within the greater Los Angeles Area. Nearly 1000 injury collisions were inspected and reviewed by him over the duration of the inspection cycle.

He is a subject matter expert in both California and Federal commercial vehicle regulations. After extensive training and experience, he became an instructor for other members of the department on various aspects of commercial vehicle-related regulations and enforcement.

As an instructor for CHP personnel, the topics included:

  • Hazardous materials response for all first responder levels
  • Radioactive materials response and enforcement
  • Response to WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) incidents
  • California regulations – Hours of Service, Weight, Size, BIT, and Loading

In 2002 he became a liaison instructor for the commercial industry. After 2005, he became the department’s coordinator for the Los Angeles County Area, and he provided extensive, outreach training on matters of commercial vehicle regulations pertaining to safety and compliance. The topics of instruction trained drivers, dispatchers, and managers, and included driver safety, drug and alcohol testing protocols, documentation retention, vehicle maintenance, hazardous materials compliance, loading requirements, weight compliance, and hours of service requirements.

In 2019, Jason retired honorably from the California Highway Patrol, and in 2020, founded Safety Matters Transportation Consulting, LLC.
